Each of these shots was done in the studio with soft light coming in from one point. I wanted an effect of an old oil painting, using the contrast between the stark white of the chefs jacket and the shadows in the creases moving up to the grey background to pull the eye back to the warm tones of the face. The goal is to find the essence of each chef and bring it out. Whether you see the quiet confidence that comes with knowledge and experience, the playful cockiness of youth, or a moment of relaxation and humor, there is no question about their gravity and professionalism both as chefs and individuals. The camera doesn't lie.
